A community cloud where people share idle laptops and servers, and others deploy containers that get public URLs, even when machines sit behind home routers and carrier-grade NAT.

My Role

Networking design (outbound-only connections and a tunnel gateway), co-design of the control plane, and the monitoring/observability plan.

Project Highlights

  • Machines never open inbound ports: agents dial out to the control plane and to a Piko tunnel gateway
  • Per-machine signed JWTs limit which apps each machine may serve
  • Desired-state reconciliation (Kubernetes-style), heartbeats, automatic rescheduling when a machine goes offline
  • Container CPU/memory limits; the laptop owner always gets priority
  • Now evolving into a multi-service platform: capacity verification, credits billing, monitoring
